Khartoum - Secretary General of the Gum Arabic Council, Dr. Abdul Majid Abdul Gadir announced that the country 's exports of gum arabic has increased significantly during the year 2013, where the total exports until the end of September amounted to 42,000 tons with revenue of $103 million.
Abdul Gader said he expected the total exports to reach 55,000 tons by the end of December. He said that there is an increase in world prices for gum.
He emphasized the turnout of farmers on gum process, due to the high yield of quintals in production sites and the high world price. He attributed the rise in the quantities produced for heavy rains , Abdul Gadir said that three banking portfolios were prepared to finance the new season of gum arabic , including portfolio of export financing in the amount of SDG230 million, portfolio to finance small producers of SDG25 million, and portfolio of gum arabic development industries, SDG25 million.
Abdul Gadir pointed out that there are arrangements for the construction of thirty thousand housing units for producers in the gum arabic belt, three thousand housing units in each of the ten states producing gum arabic, noting its importance in the stability of the producers.
The Secretary- General of the Gum Arabic Council said that preparations are under way for the establishment of the commodity exchange in Khartoum, and linked it to international markets. He announced the opening of new markets for gum arabic in East Asia and rising of global demand for, as proven that it addresses some of the diseases of the digestive system.
Gum Arabic exports recorded about 33 thousand tons in the first six months of the current year with revenue of $50 million.
According to data from the National Corporation of Forest, belt of Gum Arabic includes one fifth of area of ??the Sudan, covers 11 states, and contributes to the provision of firewood, wood of buildings, furniture and equipment, while its trees resist desertification.
Sudan was the first in the production and export of gum arabic, as produced 80 percent of global consumption, and its trade flourished in the sixties of the last century, with annual exports rate of an average of 45 thousand tons, but production began to deteriorate since the seventies until it reached 11 thousand tons in 2001.
