International trade in Nigeria's commercial capital city Lagos is expected to get a boost at the forthcoming Lagos Trade Expo slated for the Lekki Free Trade Zone in August, a statement by the organizers said Monday. Government of Lagos State which organizes the event annually, according to the statement, is set to bring a new dimension to economic rejuvenation through trade and commerce by promoting entrepreneurial skills of local and international investors as they will be encouraged to participate and showcase their expertise, especially at the trade expo. It said the main objective of the fair was to create a forum for commerce and trade to thrive and showcase contributions to the economic growth of Lagos State, widely known as Nigeria's commercial hub. "As a result of repeated change in government, the continuity of the fair was affected and it was put in hold for a long while before the administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola resuscitated the expo in 2011 and it was well attended at the National Stadium," the statement added. Explaining the choice of Lekki Free Zone as location for the 10- day expo, the statement said it is substantiated by the need to familiarize the business community with the peculiar incentives and preferential policies offered by the free zone and the need to tap into those opportunities at the very early stage. The Lekki Free Zone is located on the tip of Lekki Peninsula of Lagos State, covering a land mass of about 16,500 hectares. It borders the Lekki Lagoon and faces the Atlantic Ocean. It is a designated area separated from the Nigerian Customs territory by law. Source: www.globaltimes.cn/content/714200.shtml
