Nigerian Exporters Get Boost To Tap Into $400bn Amazon Market – 500 Exporters To Benefit Immediately
The Chief Executive Officer of Export and Sell Nigeria Ltd, Mr. Udeh Nduka says that the company through the Export Expansion Facility Programme (EEFP) is working to ensure that 500 Nigerian companies tap into the $400 billion monthly Amazon market.
The Export Expansion Facility Programme (EEFP) is being implemented by the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) according to the statement released by the company’s executive management.
The Export Expansion Facility Programme (EEFP) and the company have partnered to train and empower Nigerian Non-Oil exporters with the skills needed to expand their operations and explore over $400 billion monthly sales of the market on Amazon.
The statement said that part of the training will be to enable both institutions to train the non-oil exporters on how to label their products to meet US regulators’ requirements, warehousing of the products as well as listing and sales among other things required to make a success of their export business.
He said that the EEFP is geared toward disbursing N50billion Export Development Fund to the country’s non-oil exporters. This is part of the Federal Government’s N2.3 trillion Economic Sustainability plan.
He also said that the scheme had supported over 1,100 businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) had in the past facilitated businesses focused on capacity building, training Nigerian businesses on the rudiments of improving their exports.
The statement said that Export and Sell had also been tasked with training and on-boarding of over 10, 000 Nigerian businesses on Amazon.
According to him “We are basically a company that is helping businesses of all sizes to access the US markets through a combination of training, export, free warehouse facilities in the U.S, finding buyers and putting their products on Amazon.
“Amazon does 33 billion dollars sales monthly and out of these we are looking at three billion dollars in food and another four billion dollars in cosmetics; and Nigeria has a lot of resources on these areas, especially food export.
“So that is one of the key things we are doing; helping to put Nigerian products in the US market, offer them warehousing, and find them buyers and have their products on Amazon.
“The NEPC’s EEFP has been amazing. One thing I like about it is its openness.
“We are into training and other things and through that EEFP, NEPC gives us grants to help us expand and help thousands of businesses in Nigeria.
“We are going to be reaching over 10, 000 businesses, helping them export in 2022 and also helping about 500 Nigerian companies to be listed on Amazon in 2022.
“These feats would not have been possible without the intervention of EEFP by NEPC.”
Mr. Nduka explained that if a local producer could export to the US, then such a producer could export to anywhere in the world.
“You just need your commercial invoice, manifest, and other documents, and these are the things we help companies do.
“The reason some Nigerian products were being rejected at the international markets was that they did not meet specifications.
“So we set up a training scheme where businesses are trained on requirements for export before they engage in export.
“”We just don’t tell people how to export, we hold them by the hand, show them how their products should be, and also have a team that would help them get the various licences.
“EEFP saw that we have put about 50 Nigeria companies on Amazon and they came and said, can we get 500 companies on Amazon; and that is the target they gave us, and we are track to achieve it.”
