ABOUT 34 minerals of commercial quantities have been found in Nigeria, Mr. David Adulugba, Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), has said. The minerals include silver, tin columbite, calcium and lime stones. Adulugba said in London that the NEPC was currently looking for a market for the minerals. “A total of 34 minerals of commercial quantities have been found in Nigeria which is more than the oil; the Ministry of Solid Minerals is helping in their production. Our job is to find the market,” Adulugba explained. He urged interested investors including Nigerians living abroad to register with NEPC online, adding that many things, including export were being subjected to various reform programmes. “We don’t want 419ners; we don’t want money launderers, drug and cocaine pushers; we desire that you register properly with the Corporate Affairs Commission, come to our office we see eye ball to eye ball so we know who you are.” Adulugba explained that all export products must be traceable to their production stage in Nigeria. He added that the NEPC would not issue export licences because it had been banned by government. “What we have is export registration certificate where a number is given to you to put on the export form obtained from the bank called NXP form at the cost of N10,000,” Adulugba said. He urged Nigerians abroad to liaise with the Nigerian missions to explore ways of tapping into solid minerals exports. The NEPC boss denounced poor packaging of Nigerian products and blamed the situation on the ban placed on all packaging materials which he said left the area of packaging undeveloped. He also blamed Nigerians’ love for informal business as another impediment. Source: www.vanguardngr.com/2011/10/34-minerals-in-commercial-quantity-in-nigeria-adulugba/
