Julius Berger Plc has released a progress statement regarding its first diversification activity. The statement disclosed that regarding its first Agro-processing activity, a Cashew processing plant will be due for commissioning in the second quarter of 2022.
The company released a disclosure to this effect, signed by the secretary, C.E. Madueke, and filed with the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX).
The statement also added that the company’s agro-processing activities will benefit from its existing leading technical expertise, as well as “innovation with a proven record of reliably delivering construction solutions to the highest standards”.

He said this in a statement released to newsmen in Lagos recently. The statement said that the plant will be responsible and environment friendly as it is committed to implementing a no-waste operational practice.
The cashew project’s commodity and marketing manager, Oyindamola Asaaju, made this known during the Agricultural, Technical and vocational Education and Training (TVET) conference held at the NAF conference centre, Abuja recently.
“Clear national occupational standard and demand-driven international product quality would define and drive the company’s operations and productivity in the cashew processing industry in Nigeria, where only 5% of Nigeria’s production is currently locally processed,” Asaaju said.
This is a pioneer initiative between the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and Delegation Der Deutschen Wirtschaft in Nigeria (Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Nigeria).
The conference attracted both local and international Corporate and Research Organizations in the cashew production and processing value chain. It also attracted a high government presence, including the permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and other Directors and heads of Departments.
The Nigerian Export Promotions Council (NEPC) revealed at the occasion that Nigeria has untapped potential of $3.4 million from exports of cashew kernels. The top 5 markets with the highest potential for exports are: EU, USA, Japan, Canada, and the UAE.
In the same vein, Mr. Ojo Ajanaku, the national president of the National Cashew Association of Nigeria (NCAN) in a recent workshop disclosed that Nigeria produces about 120,000 metric tonnes of cashew annually. He made the disclosure at workshop on cashew and apple processing, which was organized in Auchi, Edo State of Nigeria in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.
Mr. Ajanaku also revealed that Nigeria is the sixth highest producer of cashew in the world. He also noted that the annual production of about 120,000 metric tonnes have a total annual trade value of N24 billion.
The National President called on all Small Holder Farmers (SHF) and other key players in the agricultural sector to consider going into the cashew business, he believes that this will enable them tap into the huge economic benefits embedded in the cashew business.
Mr. Ajanaku said “We are glad to witness the prosperity of cashew farmers in Nigeria. This shows that NCAN is working, and in collaboration with government and development partners.
“The current global market trend shows an increasing and strong demand for cashew, and Nigeria will continue to deliver its quota and remain relevant in the cashew world.”
A resource person, Mrs. Millicent Oare, spoke on the huge gains in the cashew and apple processing value chain; she described the cashew tree as a complete tree with several economic benefits.
