Export of Agricultural Commodities in Nigeria is getting boosts in quick succession. The way good things are happening in this extremely important sector of our economy is amazing. Very soon things concerning agro-exports in Nigeria will reach unimaginable levels.
The 4.5bn Gezawa Commodity Market and Exchange venture located in Kano State Nigeria is promoted by current Accountant General of the federation, Idris Ahmed. The market is a private sector initiative, the first of its kind in Nigeria.
The market is being positioned to be the largest commercial one-stop hub for both domestic and export market for international standard agro-commodity in Nigeria. The market is integrated with a trading platform Gezawa Commodity Market & Exchange (GCMX), where agricultural commodities will be traded live 24/7.
News reaching us indicates that the Gezawa Commodities Market and Exchange, which is a new commodities market and exchange platform in Kano state Nigeria has called for partnership with Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) in order to meet global standardization of commodities for export. Standardization for export in Nigeria is of utmost importance in order to take our proper place in the international commodities market place.
This heartwarming information was disclosed by the project consultant of the exchange, Mr. Binchang Binfa, when he received a delegation from the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) on an inspection visit to the multi-billion naira agro-exchange market.
The consultant expressed a strong opinion that they are looking forward to a strong partnership with SON whereby when the export terminal becomes operational, SON will play a key role in terms of issuing certificates for both importers and exporters within the terminal.
This arrangement is extremely important and will eliminate completely the contentious issue of bad or substandard export commodities from Nigeria. The reason for this being that both the importer and exporter will be well represented at the exchange.
The consultant, Br. Binfa, said that the market which is going to be commissioned in early 2021 is aimed at providing business and job opportunities especially in the agricultural sector. He also hinted that it will assist in eradicating the menace of middlemen in the agricultural business.
The coordinator of Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) in the state, Mallam Yunusa B. Muhammad commended the project and reaffirmed the organization’s full support to the project in order to achieve the desired goals.
He said that they are optimistic about what they have seen in the market especially in terms of storage facilities and the processing machines. He pointed out that as a government agency, that they are not only interested in ensuring that the required standard of products are met, but also to assist in ensuring that businesses be able to scale up their operations as time goes on.
We in Nigeria are now starting to understand that no outsider can come to help us come out poverty, they have their own problems and only to make profits from their venture. We must take our faith in our hands; Nigerians are waking up from our dreams, only our people can solve our problems.
This Gezawa Commodity Market & Exchange (GCMX) is one of the best things to happen to Nigeria in recent times. This massive investment was organized by Nigerians of all walks of life; it sits on 280 acres of land in the ancient city of Kano.
This is going to be a very big leap for agro-export business in Nigeria. The platform will start proper operation in early 2021. We are therefore calling on all exporters and farmers of agricultural products to be prepared to key in to this innovative project.
Come 2021 we have no need to complain as agricultural businessmen and women. Opportunities are now everywhere for success.
