Trade relations between Sudan and China, which are based on mutual interest, are witnessing rapid progress which is clear in , the Sudanese exports to China in addition to other conventional commodities such as cotton, Arabic Gum , sesame, groundnut and skins. Sudan is importing textiles, transport means, machineries and equipment from China. However, the trade relations between Sudan and China began to flourish within the progress in the bilateral relation in the era of the 1970. Following the historic political incidents between The People's Republic of China and The Republic of Sudan, it is evident that the period witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements and protocols in the cultural, trade and economic fields, in addition to the signing of the economic, trade and cultural agreement in 1962, which is renewed every two years. The economic, trade and technical agreement between Sudan and China was renewed in 1987. In this period, the Sudanese -Chinese ministerial committee was set up and an agreement on the encouragement of investment and preventing double taxation was signed between Sudan and China in 1995 . China extended to Sudan around 100 million dollars as profitless loans during the period 1970-1995 for implementing important projects such as the Friendship Hall, The Textiles Factory in Hassahisa , Huntoub Bridge , The Medani -Gedarif road , The Sinja Bridge and The Friendship Hospital in Khartoum state .
The progress in the trade relations between Sudan and China currently reached the level of strategic partnership. This progress started in the period of the 1990 when qualitative change in the trade relations was realized thanks to the adoption of the policy of economic openness and the system of the joint market which resulted in the enhancement of the method of the Chinese assistance to developing countries through preferential loans. Another factor affecting this partnership was the appearance of China as an importer of oil so as to boost its major industrial renaissance, a matter which led China to search for guaranteed markets of oil for its industry. Thus, China tended to strengthen its investments in friendly countries, top of them was Sudan. Undoubtedly, the relations between Sudan and China witnessed a real progress in the past 10 years, especially after the entry of Chinese companies to operate at the oil field in Sudan in the year 1995. This partnership has opened new horizons for more Chinese investments in the infrastructural, mineral and other fields.
The volume of the Chinese investments in Sudan has reached 6.3 billion dollars. The total of the Chinese investments in Sudan at the oil field exceeded 10 billion dollars, while the Chinese investments in the country in the agricultural, industrial and economic services field reached 300 million dollars. The number of the existing and new Chinese projects in Sudan has reached 50 projects. The trade exchange between Sudan and China is witnessing continuous progress, indicating that the statistics during the period 2001 -2007 explained that the petroleum was the top in Sudan exports to China, while the list of the non-petroleum Sudanese exports to China included cotton, gum Arabic, hides and sesame. The relations between Sudan and China are a good example for the growing role and cooperation of China with Africa.
