This loan scheme is an initiative of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) established primarily to empower agricultural businesses across the country. This loan scheme is termed: The Agricultural Small and Medium Enterprise (AGSMEIS) loan scheme.

The scheme mandates all banks in Nigeria to set aside 5% of their annual profits after tax to be used in supporting government’s efforts and policies towards the promotion of agricultural business in Nigeria.
The Aim of the Scheme is to ensure that:
Small and Medium enterprises have access to finance which was very difficult in the past.
Creation of employment opportunities in the country especially through the agriculture value chain.
To boost the managerial capacity of agricultural businesses in Nigeria for national development.
The following are sectors that are eligible for the loan scheme:
Agricultural businesses
Healthcare
Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
Education
Manufacturing and production
Services (Hospitality, Restaurants Catering Services)
Mining
Creative Industry, (Fashion design, Crafts, Entertainment)
Others
You must meet the following conditions:
Here are the conditions that must be met before accessing the loan:
Applicants must have been trained by an Entrepreneur Development Institute (EDI)
Applicants must apply for the loan through an EDI, and the EDI will send the application to the CBN for processing
Applicants will be notified for interview about their business, and if qualified will be granted the loan.
Further requirements from the CBN:
The business must be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)
Applicants must provide evidence of Tax Payments
Must have a Bank Verification Number (BVN)
Letter of Introduction
Valid government issued Identification Card (ID card)
Certification by an EDI
Passport photo of the Applicant and guarantor
Letter of guaranty.
