Research work on soya bean:
i.Researchers from IITA have developed combined rust resistant and varieties.
ii.They have also developed efficient and rapid method of evaluating rust resistant varieties, and new techniques to an4d resistance breeding.
iii.The institute launched a project to combat malnutrition in Nigeria by encouraging soya bean production and to increase its dietary consumption.
iv.They also researched and adapted farming techniques to reduce labor and various soya bean processing machines for use in sub-Saharan Africa.
These activities resulted in consumption and in the number of farmers growing the crop.
Planting:
i.Soya is sown between June and July.
ii.Planting is done on a well prepared soil within 48 hours after a good rainfall.
iii.Soya bean seed must not be planted too deep and must be covered with a thin layer of soil.
iv.The spacing is 10 cm by 9cm on the row.
