It is no longer just the ‘’responsibility’’ of our leader alone. We are the leaders… we ourselves. Truth be told, leaders emerge from among us different times. Therefore, the sanctity of Nigeria, and the assurance of a better country does not rest solely in the hands of only the ‘’leaders’’, but, in fact, on every citizens. We therefore must be seeing to do our own part.
Yes, our leaders have their responsibilities, civil and moral, indisputable so- we, the citizens demand that they must play their respective part with total commitment and transparent selflessness. The simple charge to all Nigerians – irrespective of status, age, gender, tube, religion, or creed is to do the things that will make prosperity appraise us in good stead; to ensure that the labour of our past heroes is not in vain; and to encourage up-coming generation to receive the baton of legacy’ with pride in their hearts that affirms that those before them left a positive mark to emulate and follow.
Nigeria is going through a critical period in her history. We have, in fact, arrived at a point where two much-touted phrases,’’ this is Nigeria’’, are becoming synonymous with bad/evil! Should we therefore allow this to continue to be so?
Nigeria is also a country blessed with great endowments and resources. It is a country with so many individuals bubbling with supper/great ideas; it is a country blessed with extremely gifted and talented men and women ready to grab all opportunity to make the world, and take the name of the country to the deserved great height! What we need is total surgery for restoration of our individual and most of all collective dignity. As a people, proud people for that matter – Nigerians need their dignity restored. We need to bring our dignity back, something we all need as a nation-faith! Faith in ourselves which will transcend to faith in our system, and above all ‘faith’ in OUR COUNTRY, NIGERIA again.
The onus is on us to create and achieve an atmosphere devoid of debilitating squabbling and devastating selfish interests, for the sake of ourselves and for our children (born and unborn). My believe is that it is the Nigerian Youth of today, that will guarantee that any and all developmental efforts sweeping across the country manifest into positive future for Nigeria. The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow- as a matter of fact, some of our youth are already leaders today exhibiting that sense of leadership,
Nigerians are a uniquely and extremely creative set of people who daily have so much to offer on the world stage; in fact, Nigerians across the globe excel in whatever vocation they find themselves. A myriad of challenges face us as to arise as one people, to collectively condem acts, behaviours and some of our deeds which militate against our growth and development, as well as the good name of our dear country. We should begin to make conscious efforts to speak about the good and positive stories on Nigeria, and of ourselves, rather than insist on negatives. Truth be told, no one else will do that for us; we must be the ones to face it and do it by ourselves.
The way we deal with and wade through this period is important to entrenching the Nigeria of our desire. It concerns and has to do with all of us, young and old, for good or for otherwise; all of us are stake-holders in the Nigerian project, and we are all therefore responsible for what we may wish Nigeria to be! You and I are involved in it!
