Ethiopia may secure more than US$900 million from exports of pulses, oil seeds and spices this year. According to Haile Berhe, President of the 110-member Ethiopian Pulses, Oil Seeds and Spices Processors-Exporters Association, the country is providing free land for processing and for the provision of warehouses, as well as waiving related import and export duties to encourage production. He said that Ethiopia could generate this amount in this financial year to July 2013, and, if the positive trends continue, it could be earning US$2 billion a year by the end of the five-year Growth and Transformation Plan in 2015. Ato Haile said sesame seeds accounted for around $460 million of last year's revenue of $660 million from oil seeds, pulses and spices. Ethiopia is the largest sesame grower in Africa, and the fourth-largest producer in the world. Source: allafrica.com/stories/201212110968.html
