YAM COMMITTEE SET TO TAKE POSSESSION OF IKORODU TERMINAL TO FACILITATE EXPORT
Prof. Simon Irtwange, the Chairman, Technical Committee on the Yam Export Programme, said on Thursday that his committee was set to take possession of the Ikorodu terminal to facilitate yam exports in the first quarter of 2019.
According to him, the terminal has been officially designed for the primary export of yam and other agricultural produce instead of the Apapa ports.
Irtwange stressed that this move would put an end produce getting spoil while on its way to the port.
“This is one of the high points of achievements recorded by the Committee in 2018.”
“At least, it will go a long way in helping the vehicles to avoid the Apapa gridlocks, save the time the produce gets to the ships and reduce the number of wastages through spoilage.” he said.
The Prof. added that the committee had started to look into airlines to see how compartments could be used for yam export, adding that the committee will put in all efforts to ensure exportation of yam on a permanent basis.
